Constable wants to cement his first-team place |
Shrewsbury Town's new striker James Constable is determined to hang on to his first team place after netting three goals since joining last month. He told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I'll be doing everything I can to keep that shirt, and hopefully I can keep the goal scoring going."
Constable will keep his place in Saturday's game with Hereford because striker Dave Hibbert is suspended.
"Competition for places is healthy and brings the best out of us," he said.
The former Kidderminster Harriers star will pair up with Shrewsbury's other recent signing Guy Madjo - as he would have done at Morecambe at the weekend had the game not been postponed due to the icy pitch.
Manager Gary Peters is confident he has unearthed a couple of gems in Constable and Madjo.
"Both had good scoring records in the Conference, and that's why we've brought them in," he said.
"No one's guaranteed a place at this football club.
"If the other two are playing and scoring, and we're playing well and winning, then Hibbo'll have to wait," Peters added.
