Gilbert had a transfer request turned down by the Owls in August last year
Sheffield Wednesday left-back Peter Gilbert has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.
The 25-year-old arrived at Hillsborough from Leicester City in January 2006 after an initial loan period.
Gilbert, who spent a month on loan at Doncaster in 2007, had a transfer request turned down last August.
The Owls have thanked Gilbert for his service and said the decision had been taken to give the player chance to find a new club in time for the summer.
