Permanent move unlikely - Varney

Luke Varney
Varney made his Wednesday debut against Swansea on Saturday

Striker Luke Varney does not expect his loan move to Sheffield Wednesday from Derby to be made permanent this summer.

Varney joined County in January, but has struggled with injury and illness and has moved to the Owls for a month.

"I've got a long-term contract at Derby and I'd love to succeed there," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"It's a big club and the manager has told me I have a future there. I'm just looking to get some games under my belt," he added.

"I suppose you don't really know what could happen, but I am hoping that I can do the business at Derby."

But he insists he will try his all for the Owls this season.

"I am here to help Sheffield Wednesday, that is the meaning of the move. It is not just about me, I am always very passionate about who I play for," he said.
