Sheffield Wednesday defender Frankie Simek has described his return to the side as "unbelievable".

The United States international started for the first time in almost a year at Southampton, after recovering from a serious ankle injury.

Simek told BBC Radio Sheffield: "It's unbelievable to be back, just to be out on the pitch again after such a long time out, I'm more than happy."

The 24-year-old played the whole of the Owls' 1-1 draw at St Mary's.

Meanwhile, Owls boss Brian Laws says defender Richard Hinds could return to action in the new year.

The 28-year-old was expected to miss most of this season after breaking his left leg on the opening day of the season.

But Laws says Hinds is doing better than expected.

"He's ahead of schedule, I hope in the new year we'll be looking at him more as a first-team player, he desperately wants to get back into the training side of the team."
