Southampton 1-1 Sheff Wed

Marcus Tudgay struck three minutes from time to deny Southampton what would have been only a second home win this season and earn Wednesday a point.

Bradley Wright-Phillips gave the hosts the lead when he drove at goal and shot into the corner from the edge of the area with keeper Lee Grant helpless.

Wright-Phillips and David McGoldrick both missed chances for a second.

And Tudgay made them pay when he rattled in a 20-yarder to earn the visitors a scarcely-deserved draw.

Southampton manager Jan Poortvliet:
"I was not happy at half-time because we should have been 3-0 up and the game would have been over.

"I was pleased with the way we played but when you create as many chances as we did you have to take them.

"We need to be more aggressive in front of the home supporters and we have to learn how to kill teams off.

"The commitment and physical side of our game is very good but it is as if we are scared to score more than one goal."

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws:

"Southampton were the better side in the first half. They passed the ball better and we stood off them and allowed them too much free time.

"The second half we stepped 10 yards further up the pitch and we played much better.

"In the end, for me to say I'm disappointed we haven't won the game shows how much we improved."
