Sheffield United to sign Plymouth defender Marcel Seip
Seip began his career with Dutch side BV Veendam
Sheffield United will sign defender Marcel Seip on loan from Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle when the transfer window opens again on Friday.
The 27-year-old has agreed a deal until the end of the season which can be extended should the Blades reach the play-offs.
Seip, who recently completed a successful loan spell at Blackpool, can plays as a centre-half or full-back.
The Dutchman has also represented Eredivisie side Heerenveen in Europe.
The Blades have also agreed to extend Blackburn Rovers' keeper Mark Bunn's loan until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old has made 20 appearances for Blackwell's side since arriving at Bramall Lane in August.
Blackwell told BBC Radio Sheffield that he moved for Seip because of the uncertainty surrounding the future of Matthew Kilgallon.
"We needed a centre-half and he was available," said Blackwell. "He has some pace and he's a decent all-round defender.
"We know that, come Saturday, we have no other centre-halves bar Kilgallon and Chris Morgan, and if Kilgallon is not here then I need to do something quickly.
"I'm not resigned to losing him but there's a strong possibility that he could go. But until someone puts a bid in then he's here.
"We've given Matthew and his agent one week and if it's not done by the first week of January then it won't be done at all."
