Scunthorpe United expect Matt Sparrow decision soon
Adkins wants Sparrow to decide on his future soon
Scunthorpe United expect midfielder Matt Sparrow to tell them whether he is staying or leaving the club by the end of the week.
Sparrow is the club's longest serving player but is out of contract and has stalled over signing a new deal.
The Iron manager Nigel Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside: "He knows he's wanted at our football club.
"But he's has to go out and get the best deal for himself. We believe we've offered him a very good contract."
Sparrow, who's two goals at Wembley in the League One play-off final against Millwall just over a year ago saw United promoted back to the Championship, was in and out of the side last season.
Adkins, who has hinted that he will ask Sparrow to make his mind up shortly, added: "He's got his agent who is advising him and I'd like to think the situation would be drawn to a conclusion this week.
"I can't allow it to go on all summer. If he's not prepared to sign I need to bring someone else into the building."
