Rochdale striker Chris Dagnall has joined Championship outfit Scunthorpe United on a free transfer.

Dagnall has signed a three-year deal with an option of a further year should the Iron wish to exercise it.

The 24-year-old, who started his career at Tranmere, joined Rochdale in 2006 and has scored 60 goals in 176 games.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "It's a massive step but one that I'm excited about. Hopefully I'll keep progressing and by 27 I'll be at my top form."

Scunthorpe have had several prolific strikers in recent years, with Billy Sharp, Martin Paterson and Gary Hooper.

It might have been the only chance I got so I had to take it with both hands and I can't wait to play in the Championship

Dagnall said: "Scunthorpe have a great track record of bringing strikers on and hopefully I continue to progress like those lads at the club.

"I want to play at the highest level of football that I can do and this was just too good an opportunity to turn down.

"It might have been the only chance I got so I had to take it with both hands and I can't wait to play in the Championship."
