Kidderminster Harriers defender Oliver Thorne has joined Rushden & Diamonds on a month's loan.
Thorne, 20, signed for Newport County in May, only to leave before the season started for the Harriers, for whom he has made 10 appearances.
"I'm hoping to make a good impression and get the club back up into the play-offs," he told BBC Radio Northampton.
"It's a big club, the facilities are second to none and it's a club that should be in the division above."
Harriers boss Steve Burr told BBC Hereford and Worcester that Thorne's temporary departure will enable him to try and bring in a player during the January transfer window.
But he also admits that the move will enable Thorne to gain some first team games under his belt.
"Ollie understands he has dropped down the pecking order a little bit as his form dipped a bit after the York sending-off," said Burr.
"He'll go out there to Rushden and get some games but we will keep a close eye on him and see how things develop."
Gravesend-born Thorne started out in football as a boy at Nene Park, where he was part the Diamonds centre of excellence.
He then switched to the MK Dons youth set-up before signing in 2009 for Forest Green, where he played 23 times.
The central defender, who is due to remain at Nene Park until 12 February, will link up with Diamonds in time for this Saturday's home fixture against Altrincham.
