Forest Green have signed defender Oliver Thorne on non-contract terms.
The 19-year-old spent a year as a trainee at MK Dons and some time at the Glenn Hoddle academy, but has not been attached to a league club since 2007.
Rovers boss Dave Hockaday told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "He is big strong centre half, a leader, aggressive, decent on the ball.
"We've got him in to have a look at him - this could be his chance. He had a bad injury, but he's back fit now."
Hockaday added: "I've always kept my eye on him so we'll see how he goes."
Hockaday is also looking for a loan striker but may be able to call on fit-again David Brown for the trip to Barrow.
Brown spent three months at Barrow in 2008-09 and played in their FA Cup tie at Middlesbrough.
