Huke was born in England but has Australian nationality

Midfielder Shane Huke has agreed to join Blue Square Bet Premier outfit Rushden & Diamonds on a one-year deal.

The 24-year-old played seven games on loan at Nene Park last season from Australian club Central Coast Mariners, where his contract has ended.

Manager Justin Edinburgh told BBC Radio Northampton: "He showed his versatility when he joined us last season at a crucial time.

"He's an excellent player and I think there's more to come from him."

Huke started his career at Peterborough, where he made 33 appearances.

Loan spells at King's Lynn, Bedford Town, Cambridge City and AFC Hornchurch followed before a switch to Dagenham & Redbridge in 2007.

He featured 41 times, finding the net on three occasions at Victoria Road, before heading to Australia in 2008.
