Reading's Brynjar Gunnarsson aims to use his experience to help the club's younger players this season.
The Icelandic international has made 137 appearances for the Royals and, at 34, is one of the oldest players at the Madejski Stadium.
"With experience, you try to guide the younger players in the right direction," he told BBC Berkshire.
"Getting older, the roles you have are a bit different but you still look to achieve success."
The midfielder believes the current squad of players have great potential and are prepared to get the new season under way.

"We have a good squad of players and the right sort of players in the right positions to do well in this league," he added.
"We had a very good pre-season and a good tour to Slovenia so we will be ready by Saturday come kick-off."
Gunnarsson is also looking forward to playing in the Madejski Stadium and believes the crowd can hugely influence Reading this season.
"Throughout the season, the crowd can help a lot.
"When there's a full crowd, the players are spurned on by them massively."
Reading versus Scunthorpe kicks off at 1500 BST on Saturday 7 August and is live on BBC Radio Berkshire.
