McLeish resigned to SPL life
This season's first Old Firm derby
Rangers and Celtic yearn for a greater challenge
Rangers manager Alex McLeish accepts the Old Firm may never be able to join the English Premiership.

McLeish's chairman John McLelland said on Monday that the Glasgow giants' chances of playing down south were extinguished by Adam Crozier's resignation from the Football Association.

After months of speculation about the future of Celtic and Rangers in the Scottish game, it appears the blue half of Glasgow is resigned to remaining in the Scottish Premier League.

"It would be great to play there one day but it looks like a pipe dream as far as I'm concerned as well," McLeish said on Wednesday.

"I don't see how they can break constitution laws and rules to allow us to get into another league and another country.

The SPL is no walkover says McLeish
"But, if something gives in the next few years, then of course we would like the challenge."

But McLeish insists the Old Firm have to earn their dominance in the SPL.

"Believe me, it's not a walkover. We have to earn the right," he added.

"Once we got the ascendancy at Dundee on Saturday, then we ran out convincing 3-0 winners.

"But the scoreline doesn't always tell the true facts of the game. Dundee had a man sent-off and we got a break after they missed a couple of chances.

"So it's not a case of turning up - that's totally disrespectful to everybody else."
