Preston forward Iain Hume extends Deepdale loan stay

Preston's on-loan forward Iain Hume will remain at Deepdale until 15 December after agreeing with parent-club Barnsley to extend his stay.

As part of the deal Paul Hayes will move to Oakwell until 1 January on an emergency loan.

"I'm just made up that things have finally been sorted out," Hume told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Things came out stating that I was wanting to stay and I made it public that I enjoy it here."

Hume was expected to rejoin the Yorkshire club after his initial 42-day loan period ended.

Both clubs will review the Canada international's situation when the transfer window opens in January.

But he admits he is keen to make the deal permanent.

"It's hard to get your head around being sent out on loan because you realise you're not in the manager's plans," said the Edinburgh-born player, who is 27 on Saturday.

"But I just wanted to be somewhere that I was given a fair crack of the whip and that's the case here. I'm smiling every game, even when things aren't going that well, and now this loan's been extended hopefully it can be made permanent.

"Nothing is 100% certain, but for now I am a Preston player and I'm just going to carry on working hard and do everything I can on the pitch."

Hayes, 27, made 89 appearances for Barnsley between 2005 and 2007, before leaving for Scunthorpe.

He joined Preston in July and has gone to to make six league starts.

There will be full commentary on BBC Radio Lancashire from 1500 BST on Preston's trip to Leicester City on Saturday.
