Campbell celebrates scoring in the Champions League final |
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is keen to sign defender Sol Campbell. England international Campbell, 31, announced last week that he is leaving Arsenal after a five-year stay because he is seeking a "fresh challenge".
Redknapp said: "He's a leader, he's a top centre-half. His type of player would be good here. He would have a lot to offer if he wants to play on.
"You only have to look at the Champions League final against Barcelona and he was magnificent."
Campbell made 197 appearances for the Gunners and won five major trophies after joining the club from arch rivals Tottenham in 2001.
And despite a season troubled by injury and a high-profile walk-out during Arsenal's Premiership loss to West Ham, Campbell was part of England's World Cup squad.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger substituted Campbell in the home defeat by the Hammers after a torrid first half.

Wenger attributed the player's poor performance and early departure to "exceptional circumstances" and said that Campbell was going through a "difficult period" in his life.
But Campbell recovered to cap his Gunners career with a Champions League final appearance last season - when he scored to give Arsenal the lead before Barcelona bounced back to win 2-1.
Turkish club Fenerbahce were linked with a move for Campbell in May and, while it is thought the player would relish the opportunity to move overseas, Redknapp is keeping tabs on proceedings.
"I don't know what Sol's plans are, I've not had a chance to speak to him," he added.
"It's his decision what he wants to do with his life - whether he wants to play abroad or play in England.
"He has just come back from the World Cup but he's a player I'm sure would be of interest - if he still wants to play football."
