Get the basics right, Geoff Horsfield tells Port Vale
Horsfield is in his first season as assistant manager at Vale Park
Geoff Horsfield has told Port Vale to keep things simple after wins over Bradford City and Chesterfield.
Vale have moved to within three points of the League Two play-offs and face Cheltenham at Whaddon Road on Saturday.
The assistant manager told BBC Radio Stoke: "Confidence is high, the lads are bouncing, but we've got to keep doing the basics right on Saturday.
"We've only won two games on the spin, and hopefully we can make it three, but it's important we do the basics right."
Micky Adams' side hammered promotion-chasing Chesterfield 5-0 in their last outing, with striker Marc Richards scoring a hat-trick.
Having also scored in the home victory over Bradford, Horsfield believes that Vale's 19-goal top scorer is back to his best form.
"His head was down when he missed a couple of chances in the first half against Bradford," said the former Birmingham and West Bromwich Albion forward.
"I said to him to keep working hard and his chance would come. It did, and then he went on to get a hat-trick in his next game.
"Strikers are judged on goals, and he's got to push on now and get some more."
