Rob Taylor's dipping volley clinched a deserved victory for Port Vale over inconsistent Bradford.
The Bantams took the lead when on-loan left-back Robbie Threlfall curled a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner.
Vale striker Marc Richards lobbed wide of an open goal and shot tamely at City keeper Matt Glennon before levelling after the break with a tap-in.
Richards and Craig Davies went close before Taylor's 20-yard strike flew over Glennon late on for the winner.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"The frustrating thing is that we all can see that we have quality in the side.
"The application was spot on from the first whistle, although we went a goal down, which was disappointing.
"I told them to be patient and do the right things, and I'm thrilled for the boys."
