Geoff Horsfield praises Port Vale captain Tommy Fraser
Fraser has made 32 appearances for Port Vale this season
Port Vale assistant manager Geoff Horsfield believes young midfielder Tommy Fraser is maturing into an excellent captain at Vale Park.
The 22-year-old was given the armband immediately after joining Vale from Brighton on a free transfer in June.
"As soon as you get named captain, it instils a winning mentality and he's getting the lads rallying around him," Horsfield told BBC Radio Stoke.
"I think he'll be a good captain for the club in future years."
Horsfield continued: "I didn't know him before I came to Vale, but the manager [Micky Adams] told me that he was a good leader.
"His only minus point is that he wants to do everybody's job on the pitch. He's got to relax and just get on with his job."
Fraser, who played under Adams at Brighton, has made 32 appearances for Vale this season, scoring once.
Following the 2-1 win over Torquay on Saturday, Adams said he is targeting 11 wins from the final 17 league matches if the Valiants, currently 14th in League Two, are to reach the play-offs.
"We've got some hard games coming up but we've also got some winnable games as well," added Horsfield.
"We look at the teams around us and I think we've got a great chance as long as we keep that winning mentality."
