Port Vale keeper Chris Martin pleased with clean sheets

Port Vale goalkeeper Chris Martin
Martin has kept nine clean sheets in 26 league games for Port Vale this season

Goalkeeper Chris Martin says that Port Vale deserve credit for keeping three consecutive league clean sheets for the first time since December 2006.

Martin was unbeaten in the 2-0 win over Hereford and the goalless draws with Macclesfield and Rochdale, which have seen Vale climb to 12th in League Two.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "That's a credit to the team throughout, from the strikers to the back five.

"We've been solid all season and it's been showing in our recent form."

Martin has played every minute for Vale this season, having come into the team at the end of the 2008-09 campaign as cover for the injured Joe Anyon.

"I'm trying to be a bit more authoritative," added the 19-year-old.

"I've got to do that because I came into the team as the young lad and I'm looking to keep a permanent spot.

"I'm learning more and more every game that I play. Hopefully I can keep my place for the rest of the season so that I can learn more."
