Port Vale were unable to break down Macclesfield as the visitors dug deep to take a hard-earned point.
The hosts dominated the first half with Craig Davies repeatedly thwarted by Macclesfield goalkeeper Jon Brain.
Davies then cracked a shot against the bar after beating Nat Brown with a terrific piece of skill.
Ricky Sappleton and Lee Bell had late half chances for the visitors as Vale ran out of ideas and the match ended in a stalemate.
Port Vale manager Micky Adams told BBC Radio Stoke:
"I think if you look at the game, one side tried to win it whilst the other side tried not to get beat.
"I was pleased with us, we tried to pass it on a difficult surface and created a few chances without really creating any clear cut chances which is obviously the disappointing aspect.
"I couldn't see them scoring, my keeper had nothing to do all game but lets be fair you could also say that about their keeper, although he did make a couple of good saves".
