Yates joined Vale on a free transfer from Morecambe in June
Defender Adam Yates thinks Port Vale have the quality and the attitude to worry all of the teams in League Two.
Micky Adams's side have made a promising start to the campaign, losing just once in seven league games.
"Everyone at the club knows that we can do something in this league this year," Yates told BBC Radio Stoke.
"We're not afraid to play anyone. We may not pass the ball as much, but we're harassing teams and chasing lost causes, and that's benefitting us."
The 26-year-old signed on a free transfer from Morecambe in June and has started every game since the 1-0 win at home to Darlington on 22 August.
"Anywhere you go in football, you expect competition for your place and Port Vale is no different," he continued.
"A settled team has benefitted us of late. The front three are getting an understanding, but if they aren't performing, I'm sure Lewis Haldane will come in and take his chance.
"Similarly at the back, there's Damien McCrory, Sam Stockley and Luke Prosser that can all come into the team."
Vale, currently 13th in League Two, take on Bury at Vale Park on Saturday.
