Port Vale's Rob Taylor is backing new manager Micky Adams to turn the club's fortunes around.
Vale pulled off one of the surprise wins in the Carling Cup on Tuesday when they beat Championship club Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.
Taylor, 24, told BBC Radio Stoke: "The start we have had has given us all the confidence we needed after a dreadful time last season.
"I do believe we will do well this season and we can surprise a few."
However, Adams has warned his Vale players to expect a backlash when they face Bradford City on Saturday.
Vale opened their league campaign with a 1-1 draw against Rochdale last Saturday, before they shocked the Blades in midweek.
Bradford, in contrast, have suffered a dismal start after conceding eight goals in their opening two games under Stuart McCall this season.
Adams told BBC Radio Stoke: "I would expect a backlash from their boys. Bradford are a big club in this division and have a big-name manager.
"Physically, I know we're right and I don't think anybody can doubt what we're all about.
"My big task before kick-off is the mental side of things."
Full commentary on the game is on Sport on Saturday on 1503 MW from 1500 BST.
