Edwards hopes for new Vale deal

Port Vale's out-of-contract defender Paul Edwards hopes to complete a new deal with the club quickly.

Negotiations are slower than expected for the 29-year-old as the club are interviewing candidates for the vacant manager's position.

The former Oldham, Blackpool, Wrexham and Swindon player told BBC Radio Stoke: "My agent has spoke to the club but I want to speak to them myself.

"I want to sort things out as soon as possible because I want to stay."

As the search for a new manager continues at Vale Park, the three men leading the chase for the top job are ex-Fulham manager Micky Adams, former Cheltenham boss John Ward and Newcastle United academy director and ex-Walsall manager Richard Money.

However despite no announcement made, Edwards says the appointment will not have a bearing on his decision to stay.

"It's irrelevant to me, when we find out who the new manager is I'll have a chat with him and see where he's coming from. It would be nice to know soon who the new manager is going to be."
