Edwards wants new Vale contract

Edwards has made just 26 league starts in 19 months at Vale Park

Port Vale winger Paul Edwards has said he will be doing all he can to earn a new contract at Vale Park.

The 29-year-old joined the League Two side from Oldham in June 2006 but his time at Vale Park has been dogged by knee and ankle injuries.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "My contract is up the summer and I need to play games to be in the manager's thoughts.

"I want to play every game between now and the end of the season and nail down my place of the left side."

Edwards played his first game since November in the 3-1 defeat by Gillingham at Vale Park on Tuesday.

"I was out for a while, but the ankle injury I had is behind me and it's good to be back," said Edwards.

"The left side seems to be a problem for a lot of sides but now I'm back in contention hopefully I can get a good run of games."
