Shane Tudor has said the biggest disappointment of his forced retirement is not having the chance to produce his best form for Port Vale.

The winger been forced to quit professional football at the age of 26 because of a persistent knee injury.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I haven't got many regrets except not achieving what I wanted to because of injury.

"I'm saddened that the fans have never seen me play to the best of my ability for Port Vale."

Tudor joined the Burslem club in May 2007 from Leyton Orient but has made just 23 appearances for the League Two side.

His last appearance for the Valiants came in the 2-1 win away at Shrewsbury in October.

"I've had six cortisone injections, two operations and have got an eight-inch scar down my leg," said Tudor.

"Sometimes you just have to accept defeat."

And Tudor, began his career with Wolves and joined Cambridge United in 2001 before moving to Orient in May 2005, has said he will now turns his attention to a career in management.

"I might be able to gain a few years on my colleagues who want to be managers," said Tudor.

"It would be nice to come back and manage Port Vale one day."
