Glover's Port Vale were relegated from League One last season
Port Vale manager Dean Glover has said lapses of concentration cost his side in Tuesday's 3-1 defeat by Gillingham.
Marc Richards gave the Valiants the lead at Vale Park but three second-half goals from the visitors handed Vale their eighth home defeat of the season.
Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "The penny needs to drop that we need to concentrate for longer periods, but at the moment there's a long way to go.
"We can't get two decent home results in a row, which is very frustrating."
Of the Vale's matchday squad of 16 players, 12 were aged 23 or under and Glover said the inexperience of his side is a disadvantage.
"It's frustrating at the moment because we're trying to turn things around with the right blend of youth and experience," said Glover.
"Energetically we should be as good as most sides, if not better, but when things aren't going well the lack of experience takes its toll.
"At this moment in time we have a mountain to climb because we're not grinding out results," he added.
Tuesday's defeat leaves the Burslem club lying 16th in the bottom tier of League football.
