Port Vale manager Dean Glover was ushered away from Vale Park after the 1-1 draw with Wycombe to escape a protest from unhappy Vale supporters.

Around 100 fans staged a demonstration after the final whistle, asking for Glover to resign from his position.

The 45-year-old has been trying to prove himself to the fans - he was the unpopular choice to replace Lee Sinnott as the Vale manager in October 2008.

Glover's son Danny was also escorted away via an alternative route.

Vale are 19th in League Two, but could finish as low as 21st if results go against them on the final day.

A defeat at Barnet would see the current team set an unwanted record - for the lowest amount of points that Vale have collected in a season in the bottom tier of the Football League.

However, Vale's form has improved towards the end of the campaign - the draw against Wycombe made it five home games unbeaten for Glover's side, and he remains positive about the future of the club.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "There's a good bunch of young kids here. They need games to gain that experience and over the next couple of years they'll grow stronger as players.

"We can only look forward to that 12 months down the line because we have a good prospect of young players here."

A small section of the home crowd threw their season tickets on to the pitch during the first half, but that was the only show of frustration while the match was in progress.

"The support, overall, was very good," said Glover. "They could see that we were having a go.

"Yes, sometimes frustration does boil over when we give the ball away cheaply.

"But we had six players of 19 and under in the side, and that shows what we are capable of in the future."

Fans also protested in a similar fashion at Vale Park after a defeat by Luton in February.
