Don't blame Vale boss - Brammer

Port Vale veteran Dave Brammer has backed his manager Dean Glover by laying the blame for the club's poor season with his team-mates.

Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat at Exeter leaves Vale 18th in League Two. And Brammer said: "I feel for the manager.

"It's not his fault. He's inherited a young squad that's not good enough and hasn't had the budget to change it.

"The one thing he could be guilty of is being too loyal to some players," Brammer told BBC Radio Stoke.

"And they are not repaying him.

"He's had to deal with what he's been given.

"It's harsh to say and critical but some of the players aren't good enough."

Brammer, who made his first start in two months at St James Park on Tuesday night following a troublesome knee injury, believes Glover needs to try and bring in some more experienced players over the summer.

But the 34-year-old former Stoke and Crewe midfielder, who is a free agent in the summer, insists he has a future at Vale Park and has again repeated his intention to sign a new deal.

"I've still got the desire," he said. "I need to get fit.

"But, if they'll have me, and with a bit of luck and a decent pre-season under my belt, hopefully I'll have a decent finish to my career."
