Stoke set to gain Kitson windfall

Dave Kitson
Kitson started 10 Premier League games for Stoke without scoring

Stoke City are set to receive a £4.8m transfer fee for striker Dave Kitson if Reading are promoted this season.

The Potters paid the Royals £5.5m for Kitson in the summer but he has gone back to the Championship club on loan after failing to score in 18 games.

"We want Reading to go up. It's another fixture I keep my eye on," chairman Peter Coates told BBC Radio Stoke.

"He didn't get an early goal, and he (struggled to settle in the area). You don't know whether they are connected."

Meanwhile, Coates has confirmed that the club has taken the first steps to filling in two of the three open corners between the stands at the Britannia Stadium, by bringing in surveyors to have a look at the foundations.

"It depends on how we do, I'd certainly like to do it because it would mean that we could use it and fill it, and that would be another step forward."

There are plans for a wind break to be erected between the Boothen End and the main stand this summer to protect the pitch from the chilling wind, but Coates does not want it to take the edge off their boisterous support.

"I don't want our supporters going soft. If it's cold, you should just put a coat on. I never get cold at the ground."
