Chris Birchall made 91 appearances at Vale before leaving for Coventry
Port Vale are interested in bringing midfielder Chris Birchall back to Vale Park on loan, reports BBC Radio Stoke.
The 24-year-old progressed through the Vale youth system before leaving to join Coventry City in 2006, but is yet to play for the Sky Blues this season.
Vale manager Dean Glover told BBC Radio Stoke: "Chris knows what we're about but can't get a look in at Coventry.
"It's up to him to decide if he wants to come back down to our level but I think he'll want to be playing games."
Coventry boss Chris Coleman added: "Chris needs to go and play football somewhere because he's not going to figure with us.
"There's no problem with him, he's a good pro, but if he wants first-team football then it will have to happen elsewhere."
Birchall played in the 2006 World Cup for Trinidad & Tobago while still a Vale player and has since gone on to make 31 appearances for the Soca Warriors.
