Vale must look forward says Anyon

Goalkeeper Joe Anyon says Port Vale must not dwell on last season's relegation but instead look forward to a League Two promotion push this term.

The 21-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke: "I think last season should be left alone. We should be talking about the future and what's happening now.

"Obviously we've set ourselves goals and come the start of the season in August we'll know how we measure up."

Anyon has made over 70 appearances for Vale since joining as a trainee.

"For my age I am experienced and I want to take that into next season and improve," said Anyon.

Despite being courted by several high-profile clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Derby County, Anyon may yet find his place between the posts at Vale Park under threat from fellow youth team graduate Chris Martin.

However he says that he welcomes competition for a place in the starting line-up.

"Chris wants to take my place and I want to play in the league," Anyon added.

"There's some very good keepers in the youth team too. We're all young and hungry so there should be good competition."
