Plymouth boss Paul Mariner paid tribute to his captain Carl Fletcher following the midfielder's injury-time winner against Bristol City on Tuesday.
Fletcher's goal came after the Robins had fought back from 2-0 down to draw level in the 78th minute.
Mariner told BBC Spotlight: "I knew there was fight in us and I knew that we would get a chance.
"And if you really analyse what Carl Fletcher did on that finish it was pretty special."
He added: "It was a superb goal by Fletcher, on the half volley, no back-lift and right in the bottom corner, the keeper no chance."
Mariner delighted by vital home win
The victory moves Plymouth to within four points of Championship safety, and gives Mariner's side a fighting chance of staving off relegation.
Goals from Chris Clark and Bradley Wright-Phillips put Plymouth 2-0 up at half-time, but when Nicky Maynard pulled City level just over 10 minutes from time with his second goal, Mariner admitted the nerves were starting to jangle before Fletcher sealed the win.
"I was extremely disappointed, but I know the players and I know that it means a lot to them," he said.
"But I mean what can I say about my captain, fantastic.
"So grandstand finish, but a heart attack again for the coaching staff."
Plymouth now face fellow strugglers Scunthorpe away on Saturday.
