Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Mariner not dwelling on past
Mariner became head coach following Paul Sturrock's departure
Plymouth Argyle boss Paul Mariner has said there is little to be gained from dwelling on the disappointment of recent results.
Argyle have not won in the league for five matches, and are now seven points adrift of Championship safety.
"We can't do anything about yesterday," Mariner told BBC Devon. "We can do a lot about the future and today.
"The good thing about games coming fast is that you can put it right quickly, so we aim to put it right on Saturday."
Since taking over as head coach in December, Mariner has only seen his side win four times as they have slipped deeper into the relegation zone.
And the 56-year-old said the criticism that arises from being involved in battle against the drop has not come as a surprise.
"When I was away in the States I knew that the scrutiny was intense of all managers, whatever division they're in," he said.
"I think that the game is about opinions, some opinions are a little more educated than others.
"Some people you listen to, some people you don't listen to."
With his focus firmly on the future, Mariner said that irrespective of what happens over the course of this season, he wants to be in place at Home Park come the start of next term.
He said: "I've got over two years of my contract left, so I don't see why I shouldn't be.
"I love this place, I love the town, I love the people, I love the club and the board has been absolutely fantastic to me so I don't see why not."
Plymouth will have the chance to reverse their fortunes away at Coventry on Saturday, followed by a home fixture against Bristol City three days later.
