Donnelly relishes Argyle challenge

New Plymouth Argyle striker George Donnelly hopes to break into the first team at Home Park after joining from non-league Skelmersdale United.

The 20-year-old was a youth team player with Premiership side Liverpool.

But after being cut by the Anfield club, Donnelly says he cannot believe he is finally fulfilling his dream to play professional football.

"It hasn't sunk in yet, I'm still living in a dream world at the moment," he told BBC Spotlight.

"I used to get up at five in the morning, get into work for a quarter to six and load wagons all day," said the former warehouseman from Kirkby.

Donnelly had been on trial at Home Park earlier this year after he was spotted by Argyle's scouts.

He had hoped to sign during the summer, but interest from Scunthorpe United meant that Argyle had to make their move now.

"I just want to work hard, build my fitness up and try to get into the squad," he said.
