Walton is given chance to impress

Walton has failed to attract any bids since being transfer listed

Plymouth Argyle manager Paul Sturrock has told midfielder Simon Walton to build on his good performance against Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Saturday's 0-0 draw at Portman Road was a first start for Walton since being sent off against Barnsley in December.

The 21-year-old was transfer listed by Sturrock soon after his red card.

"The important thing now is to build on it and it'd be nice to think that in 10 games time he'll be up and running," Sturrock told BBC Radio Devon.

Walton, who joined the club in the summer for a fee which could rise to a club record 750,000 from QPR, has struggled to find consistency in the Argyle set-up.

"There's been too many times when Simon has had these one or two good performances and then he's hit the slippery slope," Sturrock added.

Walton had been linked in the media with a move to Crewe but Alex boss Gudjon Thordarson has said there is no truth in the rumours.
