Lewis has been attracting the attention of Premier League sides
Aston Villa have rejected claims they have made an offer for Peterborough United goalkeeper Joe Lewis.
Posh director of football Barry Fry said he had received an "insulting" bid from Villa for the 23-year-old.
But Villa chief executive Paul Faulkner said in a statement: "The simple truth is that we haven't made a bid for the Peterborough goalkeeper."
Lewis had already told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire he would be interested in a move to the Midlands side.
Faulkner added: "I've seen some of the reports today linking us with a bid for this player, but I can confirm that no bid has been made by Aston Villa."
Lewis joined Posh from Norwich City in January 2008 for a then club record transfer fee of £400,000.
He has gone on to make 153 appearances for Peterborough and was called into the full England squad in May 2008.
When asked whether Villa would be a good club for him, Lewis responded: "Possibly, yes.
