Peterborough United have added to their defensive options by signing Welsh international defender Lewin Nyatanga on a one-month loan from Bristol City.

The 22-year-old, who has 33 caps, can play in the centre of defence or at left-back.

Nyatanga started 33 Championship games for the Robins last season but picked up a knee ligament injury in August.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I need some games back-to-back to get back to my full sharpness."

He added: "I'm finding it hard to get back in the [Bristol City] team and in the last few weeks the lads have been putting in some really good performances."

Nyatanga first arrived at Bristol City in July 2009 when current Posh manager Gary Johnson was manager at Ashton Gate.

"Gary brought me to Bristol City and I know he has got faith in me," he said.

"After playing against Peterborough last season I know their team is really good.

"They've kept a lot of their players so it's a good team to come in to and play."

Posh have conceded 11 goals in their last four matches and Nyatanga has been brought in to shore up a fragile defence.

"I can play centre-back and left-back but I think my favourite position is in the centre," he said.
