Cambridge United defender Brian Saah is set to undergo a double hernia operation that will keep him out of action for the next six weeks.
The U's 23-year-old club captain has played in all 17 league matches this season, scoring two goals.
Cambridge manager Martin Ling told the club website: "He was in a lot of pain after games.
"We felt this was the right course of action to ensure he's back playing for us over the heavy Christmas schedule."
