Gary Johnson 'assessing' Peterborough United options
Johnson's side have won seven of their 14 league games this season
Peterborough United manager Gary Johnson insists he is not considering quitting the club despite having doubts over his influence on the team.
After Saturday's 3-0 home defeat by Brighton the Posh boss told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "You have to look at yourself and say 'is it me?'.
"Because if it's me you're better off not being around."
But Johnson said he was not about to leave London Road adding: "All you're doing is assessing the situation."
The former Bristol City manager arrived at the club in the summer having been set the task of achieving immediate promotion back to the Championship by chairman Darragh MacAnthony.
And while the weekend's defeat puts Posh down to fifth in League One they are still only one point off an automatic promotion place and are the league's highest scorers with 29 goals in 14 games.
But Gus Poyet's side's superior display at London Road came just seven days after a dismal performance at Brentford the week before, where Peterborough were 2-1 losers.
On that occasion Johnson questioned his players' ability to win games on the road but admits he must also take a look at is own ability to get the best out of the squad.
"You have to discuss that with your staff and see whether that's the problem," he said.
"If the chairman feels that that's the problem then that's down to him of course.
"You have to assess it and the first thing you have to do is self-assess.
"You assess that every week and the players have got to assess whether they're good enough to take Posh forward.
"It mustn't be doom and gloom of course not, we know we're fifth, one point off second, but some might expect a little bit more a little bit sooner."
Johnson issued a statement on the club website on Sunday denying that he was about to leave the club and added that a new defender is set to arrive on loan on Monday.
Posh, who have lost four of their seven away games in the league this season, travel to bottom of the table Walsall on Tuesday.
