Darragh MacAnthony to make amends at Peterborough United

Peterborough United owner Darragh MacAnthony has said he wants to make up for the mistakes of last season.

Posh were relegated from the Championship just a year after winning promotion from League One, having used four different managers.

MacAnthony told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I own the club so I always feel responsible.

"I made some bad decisions last year, as everyone knows, so I want to make it up to the fans."

Boss Gary Johnson was appointed in April and has been strongly backed in the transfer market.

Posh have made eight summer signings and secured star midfielder George Boyd on a new long-term deal.

"We can definitely aspire to win the title this season and get promoted. We want to get back to the Championship in a hurry," MacAnthony said.

"If we can win promotion I'll be happier than I've ever been at this football club."

Johnson has won promotion from League One with Bristol City and anything less than a top-six finish with Posh this season will be considered a disappointment.

They host Bristol Rovers on the opening day and will be hoping to set down an early marker.

"We'll have a great crowd here, it will be buzzing and the players will be buzzing. If we can come out of the traps and score early I think we will win the game," MacAnthony said.
