Gannon replaced Mark Cooper on a short-term contract
Peterborough United boss Jim Gannon has said he is in no hurry to resolve his future with the club.
Gannon is contracted until the summer, but Posh are keen to extend his stay.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I need to assess how I feel about working here and how my family feel about living in Peterborough.
"It's a massive decision whether to move here, but this is a good club and I appreciate the opportunity to show what I can do."
Posh are keen to secure former Dundalk, Stockport and Motherwell boss Gannon on a long-term basis, but he has yet to meet Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony who has been spending time in America.
He is due to travel back to Britain for next month's trip to Watford after which they intend to open contract talks.
Posh travel to Swansea on Saturday with Gabby Zakuani the likely option to replace the injured Ryan Bennett in defence.
The 24-year-old came through a half of reserve-team action on Tuesday after a long spell out with a groin problem.
Gannon said: "We've got a couple of options as Charlie Lee has been used as an emergency centre-half and has done well, but Gabby is one of the outstanding defenders at the club."
Josh Simpson should be available after shaking off a knock, but Middlesbrough target George Boyd is a doubt with a virus.
Posh are considering cashing-in on the former Stevenage man who has only 18 months left on his contract, but Gannon says he does not want to lose his top scorer.
"George is an important part of our team and while all parties are in talks we don't won't to see him go and he is an important part of our left-side attack," he said.
"He's the club captain, he's got a great goal-scoring record and with Tommy Rowe in behind him they're an important part of what's being achieved here."
Striker Craig Mackail-Smith is another man who could be on the verge of leaving London Road.
Gannon has said he cannot currently guarantee the 26-year-old a regular starting role so a loan move may suit both parties.
"From Craig's position we've got Liam Dickinson as our number one attacker and then there's Aaron Mclean to come on so he might be think of himself as third choice up front," he said.
"He's part of our plans but if he gets frustrated it's in our interest to get him out playing football."
Gannon has said he has seen enough since arriving at London Road to give him hope of a survival charge.
However, he concedes Saturday's trip to South Wales will be a particularly tough assignment.
"We know we need 10 wins to escape but the likes of Swansea away is always going to be a tough one," he said.
