Josh Simpson joined Histon from Cambridge City in 2008
Peterborough have signed midfielder Josh Simpson on loan from Histon until the end of the year with a view to a permanent deal.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It's a big step-up, but I'm really looking forward to the challenge.
"My aim is to try and get involved with the first team and ensure the deal is made permanent."
The 22-year-old, who has been on trial at London Road, scored in the reserves' 3-0 win over Luton Town on Wednesday
The former Cambridge United and Cambridge City man has made over 50 appearances for Blue Square Premier side Histon since joining the club in the summer of 2008.
"It's a great week for me," he said. "Seven days ago I was a delivery driver and now I'm a full-time footballer with Peterborough."
Simpson will go straight into the Posh squad for Saturday's trip to Newcastle, but will probably have to settle for a place on the bench.
"It will be a privilege to walk onto the pitch at St James' Park, let alone being part of the squad," he said.
Some fans are disappointed to see the club gambling on another unproven non-league talent, but boss Darren Ferguson is confident that Simpson will improve their squad.
"We need better attacking options and Josh fits the bill because he's better than what we have at the moment," he said.
"He can play in a number of positions and I'm pleased to get him on board."
