Wright ready to fight for place

Peterborough United

Peterborough United striker Ben Wright knows he will need to work hard if he is to break into the Posh first team over the coming weeks.

The forward arrived from Blue Square North side Hampton & Richmond Borough last month.

The 20-year-old told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Darren Ferguson told me to settle down and get my head around being at Peterborough.

"When you go up a higher level, you're not going to be guaranteed to play."

Wright came close to a move to Fulham and even travelled to Craven Cottage for a medical, but the switch fell through at the last moment.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson had previously ruled out adding to his strikeforce before the end of the campaign, but changed his mind on discovering Wright was available.

The former Basingstoke academy product only joined Hampton & Richmond at the start of the season, but could not resist the opportunity to move to a League club.

"I'm excited to be at Peterborough, I'm delighted to become a professional footballer and I'm at a great club who are going places," Wright said.

"I'd had a few scouts come and look at me, but I didn't think anything would come of it, so once I heard Peterborough wanted to sign me I was straight up to London Road."

Wright was named in the Posh squad for the first time in Tuesday's 4-2 victory at Brighton.
