Rendell has made just three starts since joining Posh in February
Peterborough United striker Scott Rendell is hoping he will be asked to start up front in the absence of Aaron Mclean who has dislocated his elbow.
Mclean faces up to two months out and Rendell, 21, sympathises with his team-mate but wants to take the chance to earn a few more starts for Posh.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I know Aaron will come back stronger.
"But it's the opportunity I've been waiting for and it's up to me to take it. I'm confident in my own ability."
Rendell has made just three starts since he signed from Cambridge but will be favourite to partner Craig Mackail-Smith up front in Saturday's match against local rivals Northampton.
He said: "Me and Craig are starting to get their and get an understanding.
"He knows how I play and I know how he plays so hopefully it will kick on on Saturday if I do get my chance, and we'll come away with three points having played well."
