Rendell to offer different option

Peterborough United striker Scott Rendell has said he will complement the pace of Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith with something different.

Rendell admits he does not have the same speed as his team-mates but insists they will all combine well in attack over the coming season.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "Aaron and Craig are similar players so I could work with either of them.

"Throughout the season we'll knock the rough edges off and we'll be flying."

He added: "I feel I can offer this team something different so hopefully we can all gel together and I'll be a good player this year."

The 21-year-old has been assured by manager Darren Ferguson that he will not be playing second fiddle to the Mclean-Mackail-Smith partnership.

"He said he's got no favourites here so all I can do is carrying on what I am doing, scoring goals and doing well, and hopefully get in the team when the season starts," Rendell said.

Hopefully I'll impress the manager enough to make him put me in that first 11 on 9 August

But he admitted that he and his attacking colleagues all faced the prospect of missing out on some occasions and said: "We're all hoping we all play but obviously we play 4-4-2 so one of us is going to be disappointed.

"I'd love to be in that first 11 so all I can do is carrying on scoring goals and doing well in pre-season.

"Hopefully I'll impress the manager enough to make him put me in that first 11 on 9 August."
