Oxford United boss Chris Wilder has warned his side they will need to improve if they are to gain promotion from League Two.

The U's drew 0-0 at Stevenage on Tuesday to leave them one point off the play-off places in eighth spot.

Wilder told BBC Oxford: "I'm disappointed with the way we played.

"I told the players I expect better. I may be setting myself up here but I want to get out of this league and I don't want to waste a season."

Wilder added: "It was a hard game and a physical game but not much quality was shown by both sides, so we move on."

Oxford, who won promotion to the Football League at the end of last season after beating York 3-1 at Wembley, have lost just 11 of their 31 league games this season.

"I've said to the players I'm not one of those managers that might want you to have a go one week and not the next," he continued. "I want you to have a go all the time, that is the standard for being an Oxford United player.

"But we just couldn't give the fans the quality that our play over the last several games has shown and we have to make sure we have that quality going into the back end of the season."

The U's travel to Morecambe on Saturday knowing a win could potentially take them as high as fifth in the table.
