Teenager striker Aaron Woodley has signed his first professional contract with Oxford United.

The 17-year-old from Abingdon has been attracting interest from Premier League teams and has made two Blue Square Premier appearances this season.

Chairman Kelvin Thomas told BBC Oxford: "It's a big thing for him to get his first professional deal. He is excited about it and he is an Oxford fan.

"We have to keep an eye on the long term as well as our short term goals."

"We have to make sure we tie up people to contracts that protect the football club."

Woodley told Oxford United's website: "It has been a whirlwind since the season started.

"To top it all off and be offered the chance to sign as a professional is really exciting and I am happy to get this chance at such a great club."
