Mark Creighton opened the scoring with his second goal for Oxford
Blue Square Premier leaders Oxford United clinched their place in the FA Cup first round proper with a deserved win over Thurrock.
After a frustrating first half, centre-back Mark Creighton scored the opener at the Kassam Stadium with a thumping left-footed volley from 16 yards out.
Thurrock's Lee Flynn then deflected Simon Clist's effort past his own keeper to seal the win.
United trio Adam Murray, Jamie Cook and Sam Deering all hit the post.
The game was Deering's first for Oxford since he broke his leg on Boxing Day, current manager Chris Wilder's first game in charge.
