Thomas unfazed by Oxford critics

Thomas has been delighted by Oxford's start to the season

Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas is backing his side to stay the distance this season despite negative comments from Blue Square Premier rivals.

The U's top the table by six points after 17 games, losing just once.

"It's very interesting the amount of comments that are directed our way," Thomas told BBC Oxford.

"We are doing something right if they are talking about us, and it may mean they are taking their eyes off their own teams," he added.

Thomas said all manner of comments had been levelled at the club.

"From [subjects such as] budgets, to 'we are catching them' to 'we are never going to make it'. To be honest the more other teams talk about us the better it is for us."

Thomas added: "It's all about us, we just have to kick picking up results. Hopefully we can continue in the vein of form we are in and be ahead of schedule."
