Oxford United went down 3-0 to Peterborough in their penultimate pre-season friendly at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday.
Tommy Rowe opened the scoring in the first half after good work on the flank from Shaun Batt.
The Peterborough winger, who is the brother of U's defender Damian, netted himself on 64 minutes.
Aaron McLean completed the scoring for the Championship side in the closing stages of the game.
U's manager Chris Wilder told BBC Oxford: "We were playing a Championship side, a very good standard, so everyone will tell me they have better players.
"But we didn't win any second balls and we played our second half with our foot on the brake."
Oxford United complete their pre-season schedule at home to an Aston Villa XI on 4 August.
BBC Oxford has full match commentary from 1900 BST on 95.2 FM.
